September 03, 1932 - April 11, 2016
Funeral services for Leslie “Les” Dean Barr, 83, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 2:00 pm at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Daniel O’Doherty officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Barr was born on September 3, 1932 to Orville Raymond and Louella (Willis) Barr in Tarzan, Texas and passed away on April 11, 2016 at his home in Lovington. He married Claudia Houston in Tatum, NM on January 9, 1952 and they have shared sixty four years of life together. Les grew up in Oklahoma and Texas and he loved to mess with cars and dealing with cars. He was a self-made man with enormous knowledge and never saw a stranger and was friendly to everyone. When younger he and his wife would sing in the church choir. He liked music, especially country and church music. Les was an outdoor kind of guy and loved fishing and hunting and of course eating the days catch. He would find a little church that would benefit from some monetary help and would quietly send tithe money to them wherever he lived. For a large man he was a gentle man and his greatest pleasure in life was his wife. In latter years he would help her at home doing cooking, cleaning or whatever, but he hated housework. He was a man who loved his family and his friends. He will be missed greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Beatrice Bruer and two brothers: Larry David and William Howard Barr.
Les is survived by his wife Claudia; two sons: Randy and wife Dee Barr of Mobeetie, TX and Leslie and wife Becky Barr of Lovington; two daughters: Karen Briley of Midland, TX and Dana and husband Bruce Martin of Lovington; one brother: Junior and wife Sue Barr of Hobbs, MM; five sisters: Mary Barnett of Chickasha, OK; Jean Pitner of Verdon, OK, Lou Arnold of Nashville, TN; Kay Mink of Cement, OK and Ruby Sue and husband Frankie Simmons of Cement, OK; thirteen grandchildren ; 23 Great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
