Obituary of Socorro V. Acosta
Funeral services for Socorro V. Acosta, 83, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Acosta was born on March 26, 1936 in Santa Elena, Chihuahua, Mexico to Vicente R. and Josefa (Vizcaino) Acosta and passed away at his home on May 25, 2019. He came to Lovington in 1955 and married Virginia Gonzales in Lovington on November 7, 1957. Socorro loved camping and deer hunting and liked playing cards, poker and dominoes. He was a self-employed carpenter but also worked for others, such as, Eddie Robinson, Bob Blaine, Art Venze and Everett Myer. He was an honest, very social, outgoing man with a great sense of humor and was usually the entertainment of any group, especially as he was the jokester of the group. His pride and joy was his "69" Ford truck! He loved that truck! It was said that he was not a very strict disciplinarian with his children, but tried to make them think he was strict. He was well loved by all his family and friends and was always congenial.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers: Silverio, Felix and Ramon Acosta; one sister: Gregoria Moreno and one great-grandson: Gregory Larez.
Surviving him is his wife Virginia of the home; three sons: Felix Acosta of Roswell, NM, Ramiro G. and wife Lilicel Acosta of Lovington, Frank Acosta of Lubbock, TX; one daughter: Sylvia and husband German Aguirre of Midland, TX and three sisters: Antonia and husband Manuel Caballero of Ojinaga, Mexico, Rosa and husband Manuel Villanueva of Odessa, TX and Ninfa Acosta of Pecos, TX; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 30, from 3:00 pm- until Rosary time at 6:00 pm at the funeral home
