Obituary of Georgia Laverne Sanders

Funeral services for Georgia Laverne Sanders, 89, of Tatum, NM will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm with Bro. Wayne Brazil officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 am until service time at the funeral home. Georgia was born on June 9, 1930 in Jayton, TX to Aubrey R. and Leona (Harrison) Ellerbe and passed away on October 25, 2019 at her home in Tatum, NM. She attended Portales High School and in 1947 she married Calvin Sanders who preceded her in death. They shared 70 years of life and love together. Georgia worked in early years at the Sands Motel and the Peanut place in Portales. She enjoyed doing crafts and baking, music and dancing. She was involved with Roosevelt County Extension Club and was a 4-H Leader when her kids were young and was a member of Worldwide Church of God. Georgia and Calvin bought and developed 100 acres of ranchland northwest of Tatum, which they lovingly called "The Ponderosa". Georgia had battled Alzheimers since 2005 and she fought hard to win. She had a very strong faith in God and her passion and top priority was her family and friends. She was indeed a beloved mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Preceding her in death were her parents: Aubrey and Leona Ellerbe; Her husband, Calvin; four brothers: Jackie, Vernon, Raymond and Jerry Ellerbe and one granddaughter: Carey Sanders. Surviving her are her four children: Calvin E. Sanders of Florida, Carol Drummond of Albuquerque, NM , Brenda and husband Edward Comacho of Odessa, TX, and Constance Drew of Phoenix, AZ; Grandchildren: Stacie, Clyde, Carah, Cal Matthew, Gina, John, Kennye, Casey, Beatrice, Monica, Joe, Cherice, Jahanna; Great-grandchildren: Taryn, Jazmine, Stacie, Brooklyn, Zoe, Stephanie, Taryn, Ashley Kaitlyn, Neveah, Braden, Jacob and Braxton and great-great-grandchildren: Joshua, Bronson and Braylee. Also, one brother: Billy Ellerbe of Virginia. Special thanks to her granddaughter, Gina Davis, for her selfless and heartwarming devotion and endless care. Also, sincere gratitude to Kindred Hospice for above and beyond service. And to Jodie Fitzpatrick, Georgia Smith, Nichole Calahan, Jessie Ballard ,Andrea Bates , Linda Topley and Toni Ragland for all their compassionate care.
