Obituary of Ruben Hernandez

services for Ruben Hernandez, 84 of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 2:00 pm at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Jesus Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Ruben was born on March 30, 1935 in Puliquez Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico to Nazario and Carlota Hernandez and passed peacefully on February 3, 2020, surrounded by his family. Ruben worked in farming and dairy but spent twenty plus years in the oilfield, working for Select Well Service, 55 Well Service, Lucky Well Service and VMJ. He was a hardworking, family-oriented man and loved his family above all else. Ruben took great care of his beloved wife until her passing on November 28, 2014. He enjoyed cooking for his family and was well-known for his asado, chile con asadero, salsa and so much more. He loved spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Trinidad; his parents, one daughter: Martha Valdez; a great-grandson: Deven Hernandez; three brothers: Pedro, Urbano, Elias and one sister Sara Olivas. Surviving him are four sons: Rene and wife Frances, Ruben and wife Patty, Rogelio and wife Amanda, Reynaldo and wife Maria and one daughter: Sylvia Espino; also four brothers: Moises & wife Enedina, Nazario and wife Blanca, Adan and wife Olga and Hector all of Lovington and two sisters: Esther Ramirez of Las Cruces, NM and Elva & husband Ismael Rodriguez of Odessa, TX. Also twenty grandchildren; thirty nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends. Rosary will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 7:30 at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 – 7:00 pm and Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
