Obituary of Raul A. Dominguez

Funeral services for Raul A. Dominguez, 82, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday, June 1, 2020 at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 11:00 am with Father Samuel Ameh officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Mr. Dominguez was born on December 2, 1937 in Providencia, Chihuahua, Mexico to Manuel Deanda and Francisca (Acosta) Dominguez and passed away on May 26, 2020 in Lovington, NM. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home. Raul came to the United States when he was fourteen years of age and worked with his family on ranches and also various other jobs. They came to Prairieview and picked cotton in the early "50's". He was later employed with Alexander Dairies, Carlsbad Potash Mines, plants and refineries. He was involved in a traumatic accident that left him in full-body cast and was told he would never work again. With his strong and determined attitude, he built himself up, got his construction license GB98 and became self-employed. He built a couple of the family's own homes and did remodeling and construction for many years. Raul was a tough, hardworking man, very decisive and his integrity was unmatched. He was instrumental in establishing the St. Thomas Catholic Church Asado dinners with Mr. Alfredo Corral Sr and the church still does the dinners each year. Raul had a good sense of humor and was very supportive of his kids. He instilled good work ethics in each of them and had reason to be proud of his family. He married the love of his life, Elidia Estrada in Seminole, TX on August 18, 1961 and they have shared life, love and family for fifty nine years. Preceding him in death, were his parents; one sister: Elfidia Jordan; two brothers: Federico and Eladio Dominguez and two grandchildren: Saul Dominguez Jr. and Nuves Dominguez. Surviving him is his wife, Elidia of the home; three sons: Raul Jr. and wife Patricia Dominguez of Grand Prairie, TX; Saul and wife Carolyn Dominguez of Lubbock, TX and Alan Sixto and wife Susan Dominguez of Albuquerque, NM; one daughter: Elsie and husband Todd Granath of Rio Rancho, NM; three brothers: Oscar and wife Catalina Dominguez of Lovington, Manuel Jr and wife Ernestina Dominguez of Hobbs and Francisco and wife Benita Dominguez of Lovington; one sister: Evangelina and husband Jose Jordan of Lovington; also eight grandchildren: Marisa and Gabriella Dominguez, Theresa Dominguez and Veronica Loera, Diego, Lucas and Marcos Granath and Sixto Dominguez. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 31st from 1:00 pm until Rosary time at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. The family requests that you please wear masks.
