Gail Marie (Alford) Rye, age 84, passed away September 29, 2020 in Hobbs, New Mexico. She was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma on January 29, 1936 to Elwood and Althea Alford. She was married to Charles B. Rye on January 16, 1954. They shared 52 years of marriage.
Chuck and Gail made their home in New Mexico and Oklahoma. They enjoyed gardening and time with their family. Gail was a homemaker and had so many skills. She tended her garden and canned all her goods. Her sweet pickles were amazing. She was an excellent cook and loved to cook for a crowd. She sewed and did crochet. She was feisty and loved a good game of marbles (wahoo) with her sister and brother. You could hear them yelling for miles away. It was always a great source of entertainment. In Oklahoma, Gail, was a member of the Absentee Shawnee tribe and went on many trips with the Elders of her community. She loved to travel and her daughters said, "she kept the road hot". She loved her grandchildren and spent so much time with them in her good years. She was truly loved by all.
Gail is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son Garland Gene Rye, and her siblings Jesse, Elroy, Barbie, Jeanie and Diane. She is survived by her daughters Rose Knox (Mike) of Marble Falls, TX and Sabrina Sherman of Lovington, NM. One son Greg Rye (Wendi) of Lovington, NM. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and as well as her extended family.
