Obituary of Mary E Barber-DeShong

Private family funeral services for Mary Barber DeShong, 85, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 10:00 am with Father Samuel Ameh officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery and all are invited to attend at the cemetery at 11:00 am. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home. Mary was born Maria Eulalia Castillo to Pablo and Rafelita (Lopez) Castillo on September 21, 1935 and passed away in Albuquerque, NM on October 1, 2020. She grew up in Socorro, NM and attended school there but had lived in several NM towns before moving to Lovington. She has been a Lea County resident for many years. At one time she was employed for Albertson's but in more recent years has been a homemaker. Mary enjoyed golfing, bowling, crocheting and gardening. She had a cactus garden but it met its demise when Charlie Barber mowed it away. Mary was a good cook and liked canning and cooking, she was known for being able to make anything. She loved flowers and especially sunflowers also traveling and had a good sense of humor, she could take the teasing and she could dish it right back. She will be greatly missed. Preceding her in death were her parents; her former husband, Eddie Barber; three brothers. Surviving her is her husband, Bill Deshong of the home, two sons: Robert and wife Donna Ebler of Las Cruces, NM and Alan Ebler of San Francisco, CA; three daughters: Helen F. Duran, Marilyn Ebler and Debbie Ebler; one brother: Sonny Castillo of Socorro, NM and her brother-in-law: Charlie and wife Sharon Barber of Lovington; also three sisters: Lugi of Las Cruces, NM; Eloisa of Socorro, NM and Toni of Lake Cabello, NM; fourteen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.
