Memorial services for Jimmy "Mack" Wakeland, 75, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Chapman officiating. Mack was born in Oil City, Louisiana on July 18, 1945 to Tom James and Jimmie Marie (Allborty) Wakeland and passed away on September 25, 2020 in Lovington, NM. He was raised in Oil City and his entertainment was swimming with the snakes and alligators. He loved swimming and wanted on the swim team and was told no, his weight wasn't good for that, but he prevailed and beat all of them. He came to New Mexico and was employed for many years with Maljamar State Park. . He married Reatha Burns in Lovington on September 19, 1967 and they shared fifty three years of life and love. Mack loved the mountains, fishing and camping and he also loved to talk, so was a natural for the job he held. He taught his kids how to filet a fish, change a tire and check and change the oil. He was a lot of fun and enjoyed being with his family. Mack was a member of Love Street Church. The bell that was in his parent's yard for many years Mack decided to have a bell steeple made and then donated it to Crosswinds Church . He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and one daughter, Mackey Wakeland. Surviving him is his wife Reatha of the home, one daughter: Valaree Smith and companion, Joe Whitman of Lovington; one son: Daniel and wife Angela Wakeland of Lovington, one brother: Tommy and wife Pat Lewis of Midland; five grandchildren: Brittany, Austin, Lyric, Caleb and Cameron and three great-grandchildren: Ty, Daisy and Zayda and many friends.
