Obituary of Harold Leon DePuy

Harold Leon DePuy September 09, 1929 - July 07, 2009 Graveside funeral services for Harold “Leon” DePuy, 79, of Lovington, will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Lovington Cemetery with James Kirby officiating. Mr. DePuy was born September 9, 1929 in Mesa Community, New Mexico to John Franklin & Nettie Iola (Turner) DePuy and passed away at Lea Regional Hospital on July 7, 2009. Leon moved to Lovington about 1960 and was employed by Clardy’s and then Prices delivering milk to schools & businesses at Tatum, Lovington and Hobbs. He raised quarter horses, was active with the rodeo for special needs kids and enjoyed dancing and music. He played the guitar, fiddle and bass and enjoyed singing and playing for the residents of Lovington Good Samaritan Center. He was a member of Good News Assembly Of God Church. He married Falba Horton in Roswell, NM December 8, 1953 & they raised 2 daughters. On February 8, 2004, he married Yvonne Roden in Tatum, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Debra DePuy, 1 brother, John Lloyd DePuy and 2 sisters, Betty Bachman and Charlotte DePuy. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne of the home, his daughter, Cheryl Shuford of Lovington, 1 sister, Violet Dobbins of Clovis, NM, 2 grandchildren, Chaundra & husband Ryan Jarrett of Hobbs, NM and Wesley & wife Sara Shuford of Phoenix, AZ. and 2 great-grandchildren, Emilee & Caroline Jarrett of Hobbs and the mother of his children, Falba DePuy of Lovington and many friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lea County Special Rodeo, PO Box 1843. Hobbs, NM 88240. Visitation will be Friday from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm. Services are being conducted by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
