Molly Dunaway
June 18, 1923 - March 07, 2017
Molly Butler Dunaway transitioned to Heaven on March 7, 2017, in Tulsa, OK, to begin singing in the ultimate Jubilee Choir. She was born in Braden, Oklahoma on June 18, 1923 to Robert Bush Butler and Ocie Pollard Butler. Molly graduated from Hobbs High School in 1941. She met Pete Dunaway in Hobbs, they fell in love and were married in August, 1941. Their son Larry was born in 1942. In 1951 her father, R.B. Butler, was killed in action as a Hobbs Police Officer. Daughter Linda was born in 1952 and daughter Lisa was born in 1959.
Molly began a long career at the City of Hobbs in 1955 as a temporary telephone operator. She moved up in the ranks to become Purchasing Agent and retired at 70 young years of age in early 1994. During her tenure with the City of Hobbs, she was very active in the goings on in Hobbs and frequently attended monthly city commission meetings.
Predeceased by her parents and her eight older siblings: Velma Groh (Eddie), Dexter (Hazel) Butler, Leon Butler, Nolan Butler (Francile), Ned Butler (Jewel), Harold Butler (Vera), J. W. Butler (Polly) and Raymond Butler (Marguerite). All of their spouses were as close as siblings to her.
Survived by children Larry Dunaway (Maggie) of Bedford, TX; Linda Gallman (Richard) of Tulsa, OK; and Lisa Grant (Ron) of Roswell, NM; grandchildren Kassi Brady of Fort Worth, TX; Shana Dunaway Bellatti of Longview, TX; Jason Hammon of Austin, TX; and Amy Daniel of Bedford, TX; and great-grandchildren Dustin Lovett of Azle, TX; Grant and Gage Bellatti of Longview, TX; and Keirsten Daniel of Bedford, TX. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Hazel Butler and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
One of our Mother’s greatest joys in her later years was singing in the Jubilee Choir. She loved traveling to all the destinations and singing in the churches and Cracker Barrels! A special thank you to Janice Warford and the Jubilee Choir for bringing such joy to her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Autumn Wood Memory Care (Claremore, OK) and Grace Hospice (Tulsa, OK) for their very tender loving care of our Mother and our whole family.
Visitation will be held at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church on Monday, March 13th from 3-7 pm with the family in attendance from 5-7 pm. Services will be held at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 14 at 10:00 am with Zach Souter officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery. In honor of our Mother’s favorite color, please consider wearing purple to the service.
