Redbyrd was born on December 5, 1934 in Monument, New Mexico to William and Charlcia (Croy) Byrd and passed away on February 6, 2023. Redbyrd married Joanne Killough on August 28, 1993 in Hobbs, NM. He worked for the Hobbs Fire Department for 31 years where he was a ranking officer indicating his value in his worthy career. Redbyrd was a 32nd degree Mason and a past member of Baulut ABYAB Temple Shrine. He was past Worthy Patron for the Order of Eastern Star at least 9 times in 4 different Chapters. He was Worthy Grand Patron in 2003-2004. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Redbyrd was an avid roper in his younger years. His avocation as a cowboy was also noteworthy. He knew the Cowboy Way and lived by its code daily. He helped establish the local Pony Express Ride and he rode and roped with World Champions! He loved to dance and was very talented at dancing. "They call him "The Fireman" knowing the many that he saved and or helped". You know that he rode hellbent for leather on that pony express to heaven. Happy Trails, "Redman". He was preceded in death by his parents: William and Charlcia Byrd; a daughter: Sue Bullock; a grandson: Jonathan Lee; and three brothers. He is survived by his wife: Joanne Byrd of 29 years; two sons: Jacky Byrd and wife Loretta, and Darin Lee and wife Shelley; three daughters: Charlotte Byrd, Shani Brown and husband Dan, and Stephanie Halliday and husband Jimmy; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
