Carolyn Lee Hughes Golleher, 80, of Lovington passed away on January 31, 2024. Carolyn was born on October 8, 1942, in Monument, NM, to Early Bennet Hughes and Ova Lee Minton. She married Jerry Golleher in Albuquerque, on December 4, 1970. Carolyn Began her teaching career in Albuquerque Native American Community School where she taught the Pueblo Children. Jerry and Carolyn Moved to Lovington in 1972, Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and good farmer. After teaching school, she would hurry home and put on her work clothes and help her husband on the farm; she drove tractors, swathers, combines, and any other equipment that was needed. She held her grandbaby while working on the tractor or swather. She was the best! She was preceded in death her parents: Early Bennet Hughes and Ova Lee Minton Hughes; and her beloved son Brandon. She is survived by her husband: Jerry of 52 years; one son: Greg Tindell of Hobbs, NM; one daughter: Fawnita and husband Jim Sanders; one brother: Larry Hughes of Monument, NM; two granddaughters: Kaylee Crouch and husband Miles of Hobbs, NM, and Crystal Powell of Dallas, TX; three grandsons: Brett Golleher and wife Makayla of Lovington, NM, Jared Golleher of Lubbock, TX, and Adam Valdez of New York; great-grandchildren: Brantley and Braylee Crouch of Hobbs, NM, Braxton "JoJo" Golleher of Lovington, NM; her nephew: Keith Hughes and wife Tammy of Monument, NM; niece: Twyla Bryant and husband Chris of Hobbs, NM and numerous nieces and nephews. During her tenure as a science teacher, Lovington Schools held a science fair. Carolyn and several other teachers were to be judges; however, the judges chose her son, Brandon as the winner. She vehemently opposed the other judges decision because she didn't want anyone to think she may has influenced the decision, however, the judge prevailed and Brandon Golleher, won the award. Carolyn was a beautiful person and was always in the right place at the right time to help others. She loved everyone and had a kind heart. She chose to lead and care for others. She was always a teacher, even on the farm where she taught her sons to drive. Greg was a willing student and tore the door off the vehicle she was teaching him to drive. She even let the grandchildren ride in her lap (this was post seatbelt) and drive to her brother's house. They truly enjoyed their grandmother. When they spent the night, the best part was waking up and smelling the aroma of bacon cooking. She knew how to feed these grandchildren. She made the best pecan pies. She was a good daughter and took her grandchildren to see her mother when she was in the nursing home in Hobbs, NM. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spoilt them rotten. Another episode of her teaching career, while on the farm she was showing the grandson how to drive (or not to drive), was when she was backing up the pickup, she hit a pole. The first thing she said to the grandson was, "don't tell grandpa". Just to look up and grandpa was watching. One thing she always made sure of was that the grandchildren did not go hungry. Carolyn was an excellent cook. Or the time when she made the potato sandwich with two slices of bread and a whole potato. Grandsons laughed with her. She was a very sweet and kind lady and was always encouraging others. She loved flowers and would water them often. When she got to where she would water them to often her lovely daughter, Fawnita, purchased artificial flowers so Carolyn could water them and they would still be beautiful. Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Lovington Cemetery.
