Obituary of Katherine Anne Gregory

Harry Pittam officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Katherine Anne Clifton Gregory Cook, passed away on September 6, 2014 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born on January 3, 1933 to Alvin and Ruth (Pinson) Clifton in Corsicana, Texas. Three months later, her family moved to Hobbs where she grew up and graduated from Hobbs High School. She attended Texas Tech University. During her college years, she returned to Hobbs to earn additional funds for school and she worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone. She met Jack D. Gregory, Jr. and three months later they were married in May of 1953. They moved to Lovington where she lived until shortly after Jack’s death in December, 1999. Two years later, she became reacquainted with a childhood classmate and married Donald Cook after a short courtship. They later moved to Ardmore, OK where she lived the remainder of her life. Donald preceded her in death in 2012. Katherine was a committed Christian woman who was always active in her church. She led Young Women’s Bible Study groups and taught many Sunday School classes. She had a special love for teenagers and young adults. She loved to watch sports of any kind and especially enjoyed water skiing, swimming and playing tennis. She loved shopping, especially for shoes. For a number of years, she was very active with the Miss New Mexico Pageant serving as both a sponsor and later, on the Board of Directors. She loved to laugh and make others laugh also. She left a legacy of faith in God. In addition to her two husbands, Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Bill and Charlie Clifton and a sister, Gene Ham. She is survived by her two children, Jack Gregory III and Susanne and husband, Tom Brozovich; five grandchildren: Brian and Cameron Gregory, Keisha and husband David Stark, Nick Brozovich, Rachael and husband Alan Geiger; three great grandchildren: Bryceson, Breanna and Brayden, with a fourth, Baby Geiger on the way. Also surviving her are numerous nieces, nephews and other family, who revered her as the “life of the party!” She will be missed.
