Sammie "Geraldine" Hughes November 01, 1924 - January 06, 2017 Funeral services for Sammie “Geraldine” Hughes, 92 of Hobbs and formerly of Lovington, NM are scheduled for Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery in Brownfield, TX. Geraldine was born in Brownfield, TX on November 1, 1924 to Samuel L. and Annie Gertrude (Hall) Pyeatt and passed away on January 6, 2017 in Hobbs, NM. Geraldine came to Lovington in 1949 and she married William M. Hughes October 7, 1950 who preceded her in death in 1977. She was a member of Jackson Ave Baptist Church in Lovington and a former member of Lovington Board of Realtors, having served all offices in the Board and was Secretary-Treasurer for fourteen years. In 1981, 1982, 1989 and 1996 she was selected REALTOR OF THE YEAR. She was also a former member of Realtors Association of NM and served on various committees and a former member of National Association of REALTORS. She enjoyed sewing and craft projects and liked gardening and watching her plants and flowers thrive. Geraldine was usually a quiet woman but in later years when she became a resident of Hobbs Health Care she blossomed and was the “loved social butterfly” at the nursing home. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son: Van Allen Hughes. Surviving her is her son: William “Lee” Hughes and his wife Melinda of Hobbs, NM; one sister: Katherine Jane Carlton and husband Perry of Lovington; two grandchildren: William Lee Hughes, Jr and wife Bianca of Hobbs, NM and Cynthia Renee Hughes Lazoya and husband Joe of Lovington; three great-grandchildren: Angel Allen, Jesus Aron and Joshua Lee Talavera, all of Lovington and two nieces: Kem Carlton Miller and husband Mark of Eunice, NM and Ann Carlton Reagan of Texas and their families.
