Thelma Jackson February 12, 1948 - September 10, 2016 Funeral services for Thelma Jackson, 68, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Donald Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Ms. Jackson was born on February 12, 1948 in Flatonia, Texas to Sylvester and Geneva (Clark) Sims and passed away on September 10, 2016 in Lovington, NM. She was raised in Tahoka but has lived in Lovington since she was a teenager. She married Leon Jackson in Plains, TX on September 20, 1985. In her younger years she cleaned houses and later worked at Good Samaritan Center, cooking, housekeeping and also as a CNA. Thelma enjoyed doing upholstery work, fishing and playing dominoes and especially liked doing puzzles. She was also a good cook. She liked joking around but was a no-nonsense woman when it was time to be serious. Thelma was a devoted Christian and loved her family, she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son: Tracey Mims; one granddaughter: Mireya Quiros; two sisters: Emma Jean Haskins and Bobbi Coe. Surviving her is her son: Robert Mims Jr. and fiancée Janie Robles of Lovington; two brothers: Sylvester Sims of Snyder, OK and Walter and wife Mildred Simes of Lovington; two sisters: Mildred and husband Arthur Stovall of Lovington and Carrie and husband Arthur Martin of Lovington; five grandchildren: Kendrick Mims, Nickie Hall, Monica and husband Samuel Hurtado of Sioux City, IA, Myra and husband Jamie Corales of Lovington; and Horcio Olivas Jr. of IA and thirteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 15, 2015 from noon until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
