Obituary of Phillip Nelson Jones

Phillip "Buzz" Nelson Jones March 01, 1952 - February 21, 2017 Memorial services for Phillip “Buzz” Nelson Jones, 64, of McDonald, NM will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Phillip Stroud officiating. Buzz was born in Lovington, NM on March 1, 1952 to Zeke and Leviatha (Nelson) Jones. He passed away on February 21, 2017 on the ranch where he grew up and spent the majority of his life. Buzz graduated from Tatum High School where he participated in FFA and FFA Rodeos. He was a very good cowboy. He loved horses and trained and showed cutting horses for many years. Buzz used his creative mind to make bits, spurs and all kinds of western metal art and had the ability to look at something, then go home and reproduce it. He enjoyed dancing and listening to the old time country music. He liked a good cowboy story, pulling pranks and visiting with his friends. Buzz loved his kids and grandkids and was proud of them. He was well liked by everyone that knew him. He was preceded in death by his Father. Surviving him is his Mother: Leviatha Jones of Grand Junction, CO; his three children: Zack and wife Janette Jones of Monument, NM; Tamara and husband Jon Calcote of Christoval, TX and Sage Jones and fiancée, K.W. Smith of Lovington, NM.; two sisters: Jan and husband Richard Warren of Grand Junction, CO and Andi Hutto of Cibolo, TX and two grandchildren: Skylar and Heagan and many friends.
