Obituary of John Calvin Joy

John Calvin Joy August 27, 1930 - January 03, 2013 Memorial services for John Calvin Joy, 82, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 10:00 am at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel. Mr. Joy was born in Cheek, Oklahoma on August 27, 1930 to Ira and Daphne (Griffin) Joy and passed away at Nor-Lea Hospital on January 3, 2013. He married Joyce Wetzel in June of 1962. He came to New Mexico in the mid 50’s and worked in the oilfield, not intending to stay here but for one year, but nevertheless has made his home here for many years. He was a pumper for Skelly and Famaris oil companies and also drove a truck, had a trading post and pawn shop. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, old western movies, fishing and talking to his friends. He was very talented at writing poetry and songs for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of the home; two sons: John Joy of Lovington and Robert Morgan of Houston, TX; three daughters: Stephanie and husband James Hallmark of Tow, TX; Kathy and husband Tommy LeSpade of Houston, TX and Rebecca and husband Melvin Boss of Kermit, TX; One brother: Jerry and wife Clancey Joy of Cheek, OK. And one sister: Peggy Litts of Cheek, OK. Also surviving him are six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to any of the Veteran Services or causes.
