Memorial services for Debra Kay Lewellen, 62, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 1:00 pm at First Christian Church with Pastor Gene Wilde III officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Debra was born in Burlington, CO on March 13, 1955 to John Jay Smith Jr and Verda Mary (Moreland) Smith and departed this life on December 19, 2017 in Lovington surrounded by her family singing her into Heaven. She was a true farmer’s daughter and grew up on a farm in eastern Colorado. She attended school in Burlington and graduated in 1973. She began her interest in the medical field while working at a local hospital during her high school years as a candy striper. She attended college a UNC in Greeley, CO and she met her husband of 40 years, Scott Lewellen, through a chance encounter at a cousins wedding. Debbie’s foundation was faith and family, her family was her heart and she treasured her family and friends. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and had a true servant’s heart, giving of herself to her church in any capacity. She began her career with Nor-lea Hospital twenty nine years ago attaining the position of Business Office Manager and presiding over the office staff. She was instrumental in the growth of Nor-Lea. You would be immediately drawn to Debbie because of her infectious laugh and her expressive eyes as she had a beautiful soul.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son-in-law, Dave Cummings.
Surviving her is her husband Scott of the home, three daughters: Kelly and husband Trey Kerby of Lovington, Erin Cummings of Lovington and Lisa and husband Keith Russell of Midland, TX; three grandchildren: Kooper and Tessa Kerby and Ella Cummings and a host of friends. Also one brother: Larry Kent and wife Karen Smith of Rosebud, Arkansas and four nieces and one nephew; father and mother-in-law: Henry and Martha Lewellen of Artesia and brother-in-law: Randy and wife Kathy Lewellen of Midland, TX.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Guadalupe Christian Camp, PO Box 1115, Lovington, NM 88260.
