Obituary of Carl Thurman Lovelace

Carl Thurman Lovelace May 04, 1930 - February 21, 2014 Graveside funeral services for Carl Thurman Lovelace, 83, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11:00 am at Monte Vista Cemetery in Monte Vista, Colorado. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Lovelace was born on May 4, 1930 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Ray Hess and Losa Lorane (Leonhardt) Lovelace and passed away on February 21, 2014 at his home. Carl was raised by his maternal grandparents, the Leonhardts. He served his country in the Calvary Division of the United States Army. Carl married Mary Thelma Trisdale on May 6, 1948 in Wichita Falls, TX ,three children were born to this union. Carl worked in the oilfields of Lea County for twenty four years, then he moved to Colorado where he farmed and ranched for thirty five years and retired in the San Luis Valley. He loved to hunt and fish and loved anything outdoors. He returned to Lovington in September of 2009 to be closer to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents, his wife and a daughter, Gwendolyn Kay Christensen and one grandson, G. W. Lovelace. He is survived by two sons: Carl Ray and wife Debbie Lovelace of Lovington, NM and George Lawrence “Larry” and wife Diane Lovelace of Lovington, one son-in-law: Chuck Christensen of Roswell, NM. He was also blessed with eleven grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the New Mexico Boys & Girls Ranches, PO Box 9, Belen, NM 87002-9001.
