Obituary of Ramona Valencia Marquez

Ramona "Popa" Valencia Marquez February 02, 1930 - July 15, 2015 Funeral services for Ramona “Popa” V. Marquez, 85, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 10:30 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Redentor Molina officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Marquez was born on February 1, 1930 in Marfa, Texas to Jose and Maria (Leyba) Valencia and passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Ramona married Librado Marquez on June 2, 1949 in San Carlos, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was a very religious and spiritual woman and very active in St. Thomas Catholic Church and their activities there. She was a wonderful homemaker, great cook and was the center of her family. She was a woman of great faith for God, family and had an amazing capacity to love people. She never met a stranger and her home was always open to everyone and food was plentiful. She could tell wonderful stories about her children and she had a great sense of humor. Ramona’s heart was open to all and she was generous to a fault and she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Rita Yañez and Lucy Morales; four brothers: Guadalupe, Felipe, Manuel Valencia and Ramiro Yañez; and one grandson, Mark Marquez. She is survived by her husband Librado of the home; twelve children: Sam and wife Angie Marquez of Lovington, Rene and wife Mira Marquez of Midland, TX; Art and wife Cindy Marquez of Lovington; Frank and Anita Marquez of Lovington; Sabina and husband Gabe Jacquez of Las Cruces, NM; Janie and husband Jerry Pelletier of El Paso, TX; Rosa and husband Eddy Sosa of Lovington; Sylvia and husband David Lovell of Clayton, GA; Librado Jr and wife Susan Marquez of Lovington; Maria and husband Mike Murillo of Lubbock, TX; Ralph and wife Connie Marquez of Lovington and Manuel and wife Hilda Rios of Lovington, and one brother: Jesus and wife Trinidad Yañez of Superior, AZ. Also twenty-eight grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 11:00 am until Rosary time.
