Obituary of Eddie Joe Barber

Eddie Joe Barber March 19, 1935 - January 07, 2010 Funeral Mass for Eddie Joe Barber, 74, of Lovington, will be Saturday, January 16, 2010 at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 2:00 pm with Father Manuel Ibarra officiating. Burial will follow at the Lovington Cemetery. Rosary will be held on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 7:00 pm at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Mr. Barber was born March 19, 1935 in Post, Texas to Joseph Warren and Ruth Elisabeth (Rogers) Barber and passed away on January 7, 2010 at his residence. He married Mary E. Castillo on May 5, 1991 in Las Vegas, NV. Eddie was a lineman and a roughneck and also worked for Lea County Electric for awhile before he retired. He enjoyed traveling and being out in the open, was a collector and loved his animals, especially his dogs. He loved being with the grandchildren and doing things with them. He made beautiful Cholla cactus furniture such as lamps and tables. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Susan E. Townson. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Barber of the home, one son: Joe Barber; two step-sons: Robert and wife Donna Ebler of Las Cruces, NM, and Alan K. and wife Micheal Ebler of Orangevale, CA; one daughter: Anita Real of Dennison, TX; four step-daughters: JoAnn Ray of Logoff, S.C., Helen Duran of Tome, NM, Marilyn Ebler of Albuquerque, NM, and Debora Agee of Los Lunas, NM; two brothers: Charles and wife Sharon Barber of Lovington, NM and Bobby Barber of Alamogordo, NM; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 1515 Calle Sur, Hobbs, NM 88240. There will be no visitation. Services are being conducted by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
