Jeremiah Patrick Henry McMullan

Jeremiah Patrick Henry McMullan, Jr., Pat to all who knew him, passed away in his home while under the care of family and Midland Hospice on
August 16, 2012. Pat was born October 28, 1920 in Sweetwater, Texas to J. P. H. and
Lottie (Hayley) McMullan. He moved to Midland in 1928 and lived there
until his death. He married Betty Jo Longabaugh on April 5, 1941. They
were married for 64 years before Betty passed away in 2005.
Pat loved this country and faithfully served in World War II as a
Sergeant in Company B, 114th Regiment, 44th Division of the U. S.
Army. He received the purple heart on two occasions. After the war, he
and Betty were active members of the VFW, Post 4149, in Midland where
Pat was the first Commander.
He spent his entire career in the oil industry. He started as an
errand boy for Midland Oil Scouts' Sample Cut. This was followed by a
stint at Honolulu Oil Company before finishing his career as a manager
at Sample Cut until his retirement in 1982.
Pat enjoyed spending time at his lake house on Oak Creek Lake near
Sweetwater. There he would fish, garden and make brisket for family
gatherings. He also enjoyed fishing trips with friends to the Rio
Grande. From these trips, he returned with catfish for family fish
fries.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty, his parents, six
sisters and one brother.
He is survived by two daughters, Jerri Davis and husband Charles
“Tooter” Goodson of Lovington, New Mexico and Diane Atchison and
husband, Kenneth of Abilene, Texas, five grandchildren, 12
great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Family visitation is to be held on Monday, August 20, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Midland 800 W. Texas Ave from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm .and Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery .at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home of Lovington, NM..
