Obituary of Dora Ofelia Castañon

Dora Ofelia Castañon May 29, 1951 - October 29, 2017 Memorial services for Dora Ofelia Castañon, 66, of Tatum, NM will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Alonzo Quinonez officiating. Rosary will be held on Wednesday at 6:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. She will be laid to rest at The Holy Spirit Catholic Church Columbarium in Lubbock. Mrs. Castañon was born on May 29, 1951 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Heraclio and Andrea (Marques) Palacios and passed away on October 29, 2017 at her residence in Tatum. She grew up in Mexico and came to the United States after her marriage to Antonio Castoñon in 1967 in Chihuahua. They moved to Tatum in 1981, making their home there. She was a wonderful cook and was considered “The Queen of the Kitchen”. She loved being with her family and was described by her family as the “Proverbs 31” wife, mother and grandmother. Dora was the epitome of a loving and caring, humble person that would put the needs of others before helself. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving her is her husband of fifty years, Antonio, of the home; three sons: Cesar and wife Latrell Castañon of Lubbock, TX, Omar and wife Janet Castañon of Roswell and David and wife Yvonne Castañon of Lovington; three daughters: Lori and husband David Ramirez of Tatum, Martha Castañon of Tatum and Anna and husband Lupe Salgado of Tatum; one brother: Antonio and wife Rosario Palacios of Chihuahua, Mexico and four sisters: Soledad and husband Bernardino Mendoza of Tatum, Evangelina and husband Jesus Hernandez of Lovington, Berta Palacios of Chihuahua and Manuela and husband Jose Orozco of Hobbs, NM; sixteen grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
