Obituary of Vera Nowell

Vera "Irene" Nowell March 27, 1914 - August 25, 2009 Graveside funeral services for Vera “Irene” Nowell, 95, will be held on Friday, August 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Lovington Cemetery with Don Moore officiating. Mrs. Nowell was born March 27, 1914 in Saint Jo, Texas to Samuel & Vera (Cunningham) Roach and passed away on August 25, 2009 in McKinney, Texas. She married Ardie Nowell in Saint Jo, Texas on August 26, 1933. They were married for 47 years. Irene formerly lived in Lovington where she and her husband owned and operated Nowell Drug Store on Main street then later changed the name to Nowell Pharmacy when they moved to Adams street. Irene was the Lovington School cafeteria supervisor for 22 years before she retired. She was a shy, humble, Godly woman who loved her family and friends and enjoyed being a hostess, whether it was for Sunday dinner or a shower, she also was a very good cook. Irene was a member of the Church of Christ and the church was the center of her life. She was well versed in the Old Testament & could answer many Bible questions before she was 2 years of age. She had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed a good joke and was an excellent seamstress. Quilting was a favorite task of hers & she made a quilt for each immediate member of the family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ardie Nowell, 2 sisters, Charlotte Lawson and Mary Etta Bryan & 2 brothers, Samuel & Cameron Roach. She is survived by 2 daughters, Charlotte & husband Dennis Hester of Longview, Texas and Chris & husband Jimmy Mauldin of McKinney, Texas; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, August 27 from 1 pm until 8 pm.
