Obituary of Albert James Clayton

Albert James Clayton July 14, 1923 - September 17, 2009 Graveside funeral services for Albert James Clayton, 86, will be held on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Lovington Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009 from 1:00 pm until 8 pm with the family in residence from 1:00 pm until 4 pm. Services are being conducted by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Clayton was born in Lovington, NM on July 14, 1923 to Jim & Jessie (Seeley) Clayton and passed away at Lovington Good Samaritan Center on Thursday, September 17, 2009. He married Ima Jean Pearson in Boonville, Arkansas on December 13, 1941. He was one of the builders and a charter member of Ave R Church of Christ and served as an Elder for many years. He was very active in church as long as he was able. In later years he became a member of 3rd and Central Church of Christ. He attended Lovington Schools and was a member of the LHS Marching Band and had the distinction of being an Eagle Scout. He was employed by Colliers Construction working in the oilfield before his retirement. Mr. Clayton’s family was his joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bill and Raymond Clayton and his sister, Anna Clayton. He is survived by his wife, Ima Clayton of Lovington, one son, J. D. and wife Linda Clayton of Lovington, two sisters, Susie Taylor of Lovington and Julia and husband Terry Taylor of San Saba, Texas, two brothers, Roy and wife Peggy Clayton of Lovington and Rusty and wife Judy Clayton, eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
