Obituary of James Benge

James "Colin" Benge June 30, 1960 - January 08, 2017 Memorial services for James “Colin” Benge, 56, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 10:00 am at 3rd & Central Church of Christ with Bob Carter officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm with the family in residence at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Colin was born on June 30, 1960 in Hobbs, NM to Melton Carlton and Reba Nell (Sweatt) Benge and passed away in Lovington on January 8, 2017. He moved to Albuquerque at one year of age and left at eighteen to work in the oilfields in Oklahoma and New Mexico. In 1986 he returned to Albuquerque to work with his Dad in his Construction business. He met Pamela Carter in 1987 in Albuquerque and they were married July 30, 1988 in Lovington. In 2000, they moved to Lovington and Colin has been employed with Hobbs Generating Station quite sometime. He enjoyed hunting, working on cars, riding motorcycles and was a master at detailing, whether it was on cars, handyman stuff or kids. He was almost a gourmet cook and was considered a “Foodie” when they traveled, checking out all the good foods and how they were prepared. He was a meticulous person about everything and liked traveling and playing cards. Colin always supported and encouraged his children and was a great friend and helper to people that needed help, sharing with them, to be the best they could be. He was just a really great family man, as his wife and children and family were his greatest joy. He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving him is his wife, Pamela of the home: two sons: James Colton “C.J.” and wife Jessica Benge of Los Alamos, NM; Justin Caleb Benge of Lovington and one daughter: Kaci Paige Benge of Lovington; his mother: Dr. Reba Nell Grandrud of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers: Cris and wife Tamara Benge of Columbus, Ohio and Carl Jon and wife Lisa Benge of Houston, TX; one sister: Nansi Benge Martin and husband Chris Jones of Albuquerque; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Bob and Glenda Carter of Amarillo, TX; brother-in-law: Mark Carter of Ozona, TX and special family member Mary Benge of Albuquerque; two grandsons: Jaxon Cyle and Jeremy Colin Benge; six nieces and nephews: Vanessa and husband Ryan McCormick of Albuquerque, Celissa and husband Rich Apadoca and their children Presley and Reece of Albuquerque, Zach Benge and Audra Benge, both of Los Angeles, Caitlyn Benge of Houston and Christian Benge of Los Angeles and a host of friends.
