Obituary of Sylvia Jean Short

Sylvia Jean Short August 31, 1937 - November 15, 2013 Sylvia Jean Short, 76, passed away on November 15, 2013 at her home in Lovington. She was born in Lubbock, Texas on August 31, 1937 to Bud and LaVonne (Biby) Renbarger. She married William D. “Bill” Short on September 13, 1958 in Artesia, NM. Mrs. Short received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in elementary education from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas and received a Master’s of Education in elementary education with emphasis in reading from Eastern New Mexico University at Portales. She was a member of Lovington and New Mexico National Education Association, a member of Beta Sigma Phi; a member of First United Methodist Church and was active in the Women’s Club and various civic groups. Early experiences were substituting for the Lovington schools and one semester at Methodist Kindergarten teaching music. She taught third grade at Lea Elementary for eleven years. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving her is her husband, Bill of the home, one son: Steve and wife Katrina Short of Amarillo, TX; two daughters: Laurie Short of Santa Fe, Texas and Leslie and husband Jeff Blake of Hobbs, NM; one granddaughter, Charlotte Short of Amarillo and also one brother-in-law: V.
