Obituary of Leland Detroy Sivils

Leland Detroy Sivils September 13, 1941 - October 15, 2015 Funeral services for Leland Detroy Sivils, 74, of Lovington, NM will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 2:00 pm at First Christian Church with Floyd Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Sivils was born in Hamburg, Arkansas on September 13, 1941 to Loren D. and Louise (Cash) Sivils and passed away on October 15, 2015 at his residence. He grew up in Arkansas and married Georgia Parnell in Crossett, AR in September of 1961. They came to Lovington in 1965 and Leland worked in the oilfield for several years before becoming self-employed. He loved the oilfield and did contract pumping for the last fifteen years. Leland worked up until August of 2015 enjoying every minute he could be in the oilfield. He like camping and hunting and taking his family out to the lake with their boat and also going to the sandhills. He enjoyed working on and rebuilding old cars. He was a very dedicated family man, loving his family and liked being with them. Leland was proud to have served in the US Army and received a medal for being a sharpshooter. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Homer Sivils. He is survived by his wife, Georgia of the home; two sons: Andrew Sivils of Washington and Kenneth Sivils of Lovington; one daughter: Kristy Holmes and fiancée, Matthew Parks of Lovington; seven granddaughters: Stephanie Sivils of Oregon, Amy Gollaher of Oklahoma; Kristina Ballard of Seminole, TX, Lela Ballard of Lovington; Rebecah Sivils, Karrigan Sivils and Delany Sivils all of Las Cruces and one grandson: Tray and wife Lisa Ballard of Roswell, NM; Also eight great-grandchildren and two brothers: Henry Keith Sivils of Deleware and Dale Sivils of Los Alamos, NM; Also the other children they raised with love: Connie Rodriguez of Lubbock, TX, Jimmy Backus and spouse of Big Spring, TX and Terry Vick of Lovington Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from noon until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
