Obituary of Alice Jane Sumruld

Alice Jane Sumruld March 12, 1917 - April 18, 2012 Funeral services for Alice Jane Sumruld, 95, of Lovington, will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10:00 am at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Bro. Mack McCarthick and Bro. Wes McAfee officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Services are being conducted by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Sumruld was born in McDonald, NM on March 12, 1917 to Oliver L. and Eva Anna (Walker) Langlitz and passed away on April 18, 2012 at her home. She attended school at Prairieview and McDonald and moved around a lot with her family sharecropping when she was young. She married George Isaac Sumruld in Lovington on November 11, 1934. She has been a resident of Lovington for 69 years and a devoted, faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She loved to sing in the choir when she was able and she never met a stranger. She was a generous, loving Christian woman with a sense of humor to envy and was very people and family oriented. She loved flowers, crocheting and needlework, and enjoyed hosting the family reunion every year around the fourth of July for her large, loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one daughter: Vivian Hope Messenger and one son: George Wayne Sumruld; one son-in-law: Travis W. Thornhill; four sisters, one brother and 10 grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters: Rosa Lee Thornhill of Diboll, TX and Joyce “Lastell” McPherson of Hobbs, NM and a daughter-in-law: Earline Sumruld of Lovington; one brother: Jesse and wife Pat Langlitz of Midland, TX and brother-in-law: Ralph and wife Patsy Messenger of Lubbock, TX; two sisters: Geneva and husband Jack Phelps of Amarillo, TX and Lorene Cockrell of Lovington; 19 Grandchildren, 33 Great-grandchildren and 21 Great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Mexico Boys Ranch, PO Box 9, Belen, NM 87002-9001. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 20th from 10:30 am until 8:00 pm.
