Obituary of Leonard Jay Wenske

Leonard Jay Wenske March 26, 1953 - May 24, 2017 Graveside services for Leonard Jay Wenske, 64, of Lovington, NM will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Lovington Cemetery. Friends will share about his life at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Leonard was born on March 26, 1953 in Brookhaven, Mississippi to Leo Jay and Estelle (Essary) Wenske and passed away on May 24, 2017 at Lea Regional Hospital in Hobbs, NM. Leonard attended school and grew up in Lovington and then attended College of the Southwest. He was an accountant and was employed by a couple of firms in Hobbs. He was a quiet man, not much of a talker, but did enjoy joking with his friends and teasing them a lot. He liked to ride his bicycle and collect cans and had to be wearing his sunglasses when he did this job. He loved antique cars, especially his green GTL. He also would go to the Senior Citizen Center and eat with the people there. He liked cats and he and his mother usually had several cats at home. After his mother moved to Texas, he always went there to spend time with her for Christmas. The other holidays he spent with David and Milly Sherrill and all of their family and their friends, cooking out and visiting. He was lovingly called “Uncle Leonard” by his friend’s children. He is survived by his mother, Estelle Wenske of Cotulla, TX and a host of friends.
