Funeral services for Dick Walton Blackwood, 88, of Lovington, will be Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel with Mike Crow, Pastor, First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Services are being conducted by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Blackwood was born on August 29, 1922 in Foster, Oklahoma to Belve and Lucinda (Gibson) Blackwood and passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010 in Lubbock, TX. He moved to Lovington in 1946 and was employed by and retired from Mobile Oil Company. He was a veteran of WWII serving in Europe in the Army Air Corp and was the VFW Commander for the Department of New Mexico in 1980-1981. Dick was one half Choctaw Indian and one half Scot and was proud of his heritage. He was a huge Wildcat fan. Dick has been an active Mason for 43 years in the Lovington #46 Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Floyd Blackwood.
He is survived by his wife, Juandell of the home; one daughter, Lucinda Blackwood and husband, Alan Bailey of North Hills, CA; and one sister; Ruby Lou Harmon of Wimberly, TX. Also 4 step-sons: Calvin McCraw of Oklahoma City, OK; Bobby and wife Rhonda McCraw of Lovington, NM; Gary McCraw of Ft. Worth, TX and Kent McCraw of Carlsbad, NM. There are 5 step-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 8:00am until 8:00 pm with the family in residence from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
