Obituary of Alden Wayne Williams

Alden Wayne "Sonny" Williams June 18, 1934 - June 22, 2009 Funeral services for A. W. “Sonny” Williams, 75, of Lovington, will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with the Reverends Vergil Ichtertz, Ray Poskey and David Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Kirby-Smith- Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Williams was born on June 18, 1934 in Conroe, Texas to Tulus Eli & Carrie Beatrice Ramsey Williams and he went to meet the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2009 at his residence. Sonny had lived in Lovington since 1952 and married his sweetheart, Alta Awalt, on June 1, 1953 and shared 56 loving years with her. He retired from GTE as a supervisor in 1988 after serving faithfully for many years then later working for Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. He was a member of FUMC, Methodist Men, & Men’s prayer Breakfast, FUMC Choir, United In Christ Group and was active with the March of Dimes and LARC. He was also a lifetime member of the Volunteer Fire Department. He served diligently in the Emmaus Community, working many Emmaus Walks. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy die-hard fan, supported all his grandkids sports, raised 2 beautiful daughters and 1 exceptionally wonderful son, helped raise his grandchildren and set the Christian example for each one. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Alan Wayne Williams, 1 sister, Leota Mae Gilliland and 2 brothers, T. J. & Jr. Williams. He is survived by his wife, Alta, of the home, 2 daughters, Pam Bailey and Janet Jones of Lovington, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 745, Lovington, NM 88260. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 – 5:00 pm and Thursday, from 8 am until 8 pm with family in residence from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday morning from 8 am until noon.
