Obituary of Charlie Boyd Griffin

A Celebration of Life for Charlie Boyd "C B" Griffin, 98, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 10:00 am at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with David Stewart and Chris Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Mr. Griffin was born on April 5, 1920 in Lamesa,TX to Charlie Byrd and Lillie (Pence) Griffin and passed away at his home in Lovington, NM on October 31, 2018. He was one of fourteen siblings. His family homesteaded northeast of Roswell and C.B. attended school at the Acme School House. He came to Lovington in 1946 to make his home. He served our country with honor during WWII from July, 1942 until October of 1945 in the US Army. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, member of the American Legion since 1947 and served as Post Commander of Post #68. He was a Past Grand Master of the Oddfellows Lodge for the State and would also run the Bingo games for Oddfellows and American Legion. In the summers. he would go to Mountainair, NM and work at the Oddfellows Youth Camp. He was well-known by many, as he was employed at Lea County Court House for thirty nine years in the maintenance department. C.B. was a very active man right until his passing and he was blessed by the many friends he made during his lengthy lifetime. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charlie and Lillie; two wives: Nadine Stiles Griffin and Oleta Browning Griffin; one daughter: Jean Alison; and three brothers and ten sisters. Surviving him is his son: Joe Griffin of Lovington and one daughter: Bonnie and husband Dan Farris of Collinwood, TN; one stepson: Harold Browning and three stepdaughters: Nadine Copeland, Jolene Williams and Barbara Browning and also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
