I forgive you, no really I forgive you
My friend Dan and I sat down in a local restaurant with Bibles in hand. Some times we would search scripture for a little while before we landed on a study the Wholly spirit wanted us to study and then sometimes the subject matter was the first thing we said. This day I had nothing and Dan looked sad like he had lost a loved one. I asked him what was going on and he wasn’t sure just a very sad feeling. We searched scripture and came up with nothing. The word forgiveness came up a couple of times. A middle aged man sat down by himself with a similar look of sadness. After a bit Dan said I forgive you out of context of the conversation. I said what? He said it again then said no not you him pointing to the man that just sat down. The man startled began to stutter. What? . . . You. . .I don’t . . . How?. . . Finally he formed a sentence and asked; How can you do that? You don’t know me, you don’t know what I have done. Dan said my Bible tells me I can forgive anyone in the name of Jesus and they will be forgive on earth as well as in heaven. The minute Dan said that supporting scripture came to mind. I joined in say I forgive him as well. We argued with the man for a while because he couldn’t believe that he could be forgive. He was hopeless and contemplating ending his life. He got up crying and said he needed to go think about what we said. He left and we were aw struck at what just happened. The whole thing lasted about 15 minutes. The rest of the Bible study was spent looking up all the scriptures that support what we did.
Several months later same restaurant same guy came in but this time with a group of people. He was carrying a Bible. They all sat down he obviously was the leader. They were going to have a Bible study. The man acknowledges us and held up his Bible. We praised God for letting us be a part of the experience.

Nailed it
I made a trip to Albuquerque to take a state test. My mother lived there so it was going to be business and pleasure. In addition I ask my friend Dan Morando to go with me for moral support. He needed to go to the VA so it worked for him. We stopped in Artesia NM on the first leg of the trip. Bathroom break. Dan was standing near the car when I walked out of the store. He had that far off stare so I asked him what was up. He held up a nail. One used for out door lumber. It had a twisted octagon shaft which helps hold the wood longer even if the wood shrinks some. He said someone dropped a nail in the parking lot. Ok I knew Dan well enough that this meant God was speaking to him about this nail and we were going to have a long Bible study about it. Sure enough all the way to Albuquerque we talked about the nail that everyone’s salvation hung on. Bible verse after verse came to mind. When we arrived at my mothers house I grabbed the nail with the intent to share everything Dan and I had just shared on the ride up. We walked into her house and after the hugs and greets Mom said before I forget before you leave I need you to look at my gate. As was custom when I visited I would take care of small tasks that Momma needed. I ask what was wrong with her gate. She said the plank closest to the gate was loose at the top. That when she went through the gate the top of the plank would slap real hard. The sound would scare her every time. She said she thought a nail was missing. I held what I had in my hand up and asked a nail like this. She was startled at first then said that might do. Dan and I grinned at each other like two mischievous boys. We installed the nail in the gate it fit well and tight. We then proceeded to share the story of where we found the nail what we talked about on the trip up. I aced my test Dan made his appointment with the VA. To this day every time I see a nail I think about that trip.
I have to say that this was not so common an event for me except when Dan was with me. The same was true for Dan. We each had our own relationship with God but it was I handed and intense when Dan and I were together.

In memory of my friend Daniel Morando. We studied the word of God intently for several years he has graduated October the 10 2020.
Dan Dan the Christian man.
It would make Dan laugh when I used that phrase, Dan Dan Christian the man. If there are modern day prophets he was one. I mentioned that to his late wife Linda. She got rather upset at me. I asked her doesn’t God help Dan? Doesn’t God sometimes speak through Dan? She said yes with some disgust.
She like most christians believe that God will only use pristine righteous people. However Dan and I became aware through our studies that the prophets of God were often the exact opposite of pristine and righteous. These people were sometimes manic, compulsive, argumentative as well as unwilling participants.
Baal was a prophet for hire. God spoke to him through a jack ass, Jonah refused to obey God, Elijah lived in a cave, he didn’t get along with people. Even Jesus the son of God the savior of the world. People who knew Jesus said isn’t he the carpenters son? Didn’t he grow up among us? They couldn’t believe he was who he was.
So it was with Dan. God said he uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, that is wise in there own eyes. Dan and I felt like God didn’t have to look very far to find a couple of fools like us. Time and time again Dan and I would hear from God in our bible studies. We both would comment on how no one would believe what God just showed us in scripture.
Of our years of bible study we wrote a small book called “Twelve Foundations”. An allegory of a man who goes through many stages of faith that begins with choosing between the broad way and the narrow gate. Then it ends with going into the very presence of God. This seemed to be the culmination of our years of bible study.
One Sunday morning I picked up Dan to go to coffee and bible study. As soon as Dan got in the car he talked of the little things that God does. That people do not see because they do not believe. Instantly we started building our faith. We talked about the US as a country that God raised up and he has made us great. That people are unaware of the little miracles, that God did every day caring for his nation.
I pulled up to a light it had just turned red. No one was on the streets, it was very peaceful. To our right a cyclic wind appeared, we call them dust devils. The dust devil passed in front of us sucking up all the trash and debris off the pavement. It moved to our left hugging the curb until it got to a curb drain. The dust devil took all the debris and went down that drain right before our eyes. The light turned green and I drove on. Not a word was said until we reached the restaurant. Our study was super charged that day.
One evening in the New Mexico desert trying to dig up a hyssop bush. We found the bush, Dan wanted to dig it up to take it home. We loaded up digging tools and buckets of water on a low boy trailer. When we got there we found the ground hard as a rock. Our tools just bounced off of the ground. We poured water on the ground, to soften, It didn’t work. Dan decided to tie a chain around the plant and use his car to pull it up. The end result was we pulled Dan’s bumper off. With his bumper off he could not pull his trailer back home, so we had to get another vehicle to pull his trailer home Around 1:30 in the morning, we returned home with Dans trailer and tools. The bush won, it stayed where it was.
Dan and Linda struggled with health issues, side affects of heavy pain medication, low income with high medical bills.
They seemed to draw some of the most unfortunate people in society to them. An they would help them. People most of us would not help, they did! He was a master machinist, soldier with computer skills, a police chief who ran a special drug task force.
When it became known that drugs were tied to high ranking officials of a neighboring state. One by one each member of the task force was being killed off. Frightened Dan and Linda needed to go somewhere else. They settled in Hobbs New Mexico , Dan found a job milling steel.
One day Dan climbed in the car. God told him to quit trying to negotiate circumstances. If it is important enough to renegotiate any commitments My first thought was no that can not be right. Most of my prayers are about circumstances. After two hours of researching in the Bible we both agreed that the information was correct.
If a commitment is worth keeping then we need to figure out how to deal with the circumstance. We have a brain, we have wisdom, we have the ability to communicate. God gave us arms, legs, brains, and heart to deal with circumstances. What Dan brought to the car that day has affected my life and my decision making process every since.
Dan longed to go home to be with Jesus. He had no doubt where he was going.
One time I called him. He answered the phone, he was drowsy and disorientated. He began to laugh. After he caught his breath, I asked, what was up. When Dan took sleeping pills and pain meds he sometimes had trouble differentiating between the dream and the real world. He said he was in heaven talking to family members that had gone on to be with Jesus. He said Jesus walked up to him and said that’s for you pointing to a row of pay phones. Just then one of them began to ring, Dan picked up the receiver and answered, then my voice came over the phone. By now he was coming to and realized he was home at his desk answering his desk phone. We had a good laugh. We joked about which one of us will go home first and use the pay phones in heaven to call the other to let him know what it’s like in heaven. I’m waiting for my phone call.
